GUARDIANSHIP

Most, if not all, children need support. That support is often best served from a supportive family structure. There may be occasions where the biological parents can’t create or maintain the supportive structure, and other family or friends may need to step in and fill a void, temporarily or for a long period. The birth parents retain their rights. Guardians act as support.

Guardianships are useful when:

  • A parent becomes incapacitated or otherwise unable to take care of a child day to day
  • A parent becomes absent through deportation or detention
  • A child has substantial financial resources and needs someone to manage those resources

There are other situations where it may be wise for a parent to suggest a guardian to the court. At the Law Office of Raleigh D. Kalbfleisch, we have a team ready to help. Raleigh Kalbfleisch has been a court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem, charged with taking care of children as they interact with the Illinois legal system. She has a full understanding of the responsibilities guardians are preparing to take on.
